Owner and Founder Xavier Lassalle (a.k.a. “Le Crazy Bear”) began his passion for bicycles in Bordeaux, France in 1988. He apprenticed under renowned frame builder Michel Debien, creating custom made to order road and mountain bikes. Over the years, Xavier’s passion for riding grew while exploring the best trails throughout Europe, Africa, and the U.S. His favorite pastime is gathering friends together for mountain-bike adventures off the beaten path.
Xavier is a top shelf bicycle mechanic, offering the full range of bike repair and maintenance services, with a focus on in-house suspension work. Professor X has a knack for diagnosing exactly what’s wrong with your bike and fixing it on the spot where others have tried and failed. You will frequently find him on the trails helping out a fellow rider, whether it’s sorting out their mechanical issues, giving them a lift in the van, or even just providing a morale boost with his ever-present smile and nonstop terrible jokes.
Crazy Bear Bikes version 2.0 was born in January 2021 when Xavier partnered with Gerard Boisse, a 25+ year veteran of the bike industry. Gerard has managed several bike shops, headed up customer service and tech support for companies like Felt, Santana, and Dahon. In addition to wheelbuilding for Velomax Wheels, “G” was a ride leader for America by Bicycle for many years, taking people across the country on fully supported road cycling adventures. G’s passion for road cycling, custom wheel building and all things two wheels is a perfect match for the wizardry of Xavier’s mtb and suspension talent.
